Project 02 / 03
An automobile enthusiast shop with a cult following. Replatformed their digital presence to match the precision and obsession of the community they serve.
Iron Clutch had something rare — a genuinely devoted community of automobile enthusiasts who found each other through their shop. Modified cars, aftermarket parts, restoration projects, weekend meets. The culture was real and specific.
Their website was not. It had been cobbled together, suffered five years of neglect, and felt like it belonged to a different business entirely. The community didn't care — they came for the parts and the people. But the business was leaving reach on the table.
The brief: build something obsessive, precise, and built for people who care. No lifestyle photography. No stock cars. Just craft, catalogued with the same attention to detail that their customers bring to their builds.
Design Principles
Dark-first UI
Designed primarily for night browsing. The colour system uses carbon, graphite, and bare metal tones — pulled directly from the material language of the workshop.
Catalogue Precision
Every part page has spec tables, compatibility guides, and fitment notes. Information density is high — but the hierarchy is so clean it never feels overwhelming.
Community First
The site's secondary purpose is a build diary hub. Members document their projects, link the parts they used, and build a living catalogue of real-world applications.
Product System
The product page template was redesigned from scratch. Part number, compatibility matrix, weight, material, finish — all surfaced without clutter. A typographic system rigorous enough for engineers, clean enough for enthusiasts.
Brand Refresh
The mark — a stylised clutch disc — had been with them for years. The community recognised it. We refined the geometry, tightened the letterforms, and built a type system around it. Nothing you'd notice. Everything you'd feel.
Outcomes
01
Online part orders, previously negligible, became a meaningful revenue stream within two months of launch. The catalogue finally worked as a sales tool, not just a list.
02
The build diary feature drove a significant uptick in account registrations. Members now had a reason to be on the site beyond purchasing.
03
The refresh gave the shop credibility that matched what the community already knew — that Iron Clutch was serious about their craft.
